A4988 Stepper Motor Driver - Green PCB
The A4988 Stepper Motor Driver Board, a product of Allegro, is a highly functional microstepping driver for dual bipolar stepper motors. It is equipped with features such as current limitation, overcurrent protection, and five distinct microstep resolutions. The driver operates within a voltage range of 8-35V and can manage motors with a current up to 1A per phase without any cooling mechanism. However, with sufficient cooling, it can handle up to 2A per coil.
Key Specifications:
- Microstep Resolutions: Full step, Half step, Quarter step, Eighth step, and Sixteenth step
- Adjustable current control facilitated by a potentiometer, allowing higher voltages for increased step rates
- Smart decay mode selection for optimal current decay mode (fast or slow decay)
- Protection features: Over-temperature thermal shutdown, under-voltage lockout, and crossover-current protection
- Short-circuit protection
- Requires a logic voltage supply (3-5.5V) between VDD and GND pins, and a motor power supply (8-35V) between VMOT and GND pins
- Decoupling capacitors should be placed close to the board, and power supplies should be capable of providing the expected currents (up to 4A for the power supply)
Important Note:
Do not attempt to make any wiring or motor connections while the driver is powered as it can cause severe damage to the driver. Always disconnect the power before making any motor connections or adjustments.
