GY-31 Arduino Color Recognition Sensor

The GY-31 Arduino Color Recognition Sensor is equipped with the TCS230 sensor, which is housed in an 8-pin SOIC surface mount package. This sensor incorporates 64 photodiodes on a single chip, which are categorized into four types.

  • 16 photodiodes with red filters
  • 16 photodiodes with green filters
  • 16 photodiodes with blue filters
  • 16 photodiodes without filters, capable of transmitting all light information

The photodiodes are strategically arranged in a cross pattern on the chip. This arrangement minimizes the non-uniformity of incident light radiation, thereby enhancing the accuracy of color recognition. Furthermore, the 16 photodiodes of the same color are connected in parallel and uniformly distributed in diode arrays, which eliminates the positional error of the color.The sensor operates by dynamically selecting the required filter through two programmable pins. It has a typical output frequency ranging from 2 Hz to 500 kHz. Users have the flexibility to select an output scale factor of 100%, 20%, or 2%, or a power-down mode through two programmable pins. This feature allows the sensor output to adapt to different measurement ranges, thereby improving its versatility.
