The GP2Y0A21YK0F Sharp Distance Sensor is designed to accurately measure distances ranging from 10 cm to 80 cm. It employs infrared light to detect the distance to an object. The sensor emits this light towards the object and then processes the reflected light into an analog voltage using its specialized receiver.The sensor's output values are primarily based on measurements taken with white paper that reflects 90% of the light. However, the sensor also performs well with gray paper that reflects 18% of the light, producing values that are very similar.It's important to note that the sensor's voltage output is not directly linear with the measured distance. Instead, it follows a 1 / X relationship. This makes the GP2Y0A21YK0F Sharp Distance Sensor also suitable as a proximity sensor.
